God Shares His Name

EXODUS

Use the following thoughts and questions to have a spiritual conversation as a family. Don’t

emphasize having the right answer, but focus on spending time discussing the Word as a family.

SCRIPTURE

Exodus 3:1-15, 19-22.

SESSION SUMMARY

In this week’s session, we looked at the story where God spoke to Moses from the burning bush. There, God revealed Himself as Yahweh, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; the living God, the God who simply is. Here are some of the main things we learned the story:

• God reveals His holiness (Ex. 3:1-5).

• God reveals His identity (Ex. 3:6-15).

• God reveals His power (Ex. 3:19-22).

CONVERSATION QUESTIONS

• How should God’s holiness motivate us to live holy?
• How might we live more confidently if we focused more on who God is than focusing on

ourselves?
• How has God shown us His power in our lives?

FAMILY CHALLENGE

At the burning bush, God revealed His name as “I AM.” In the Gospel of John, Jesus claimed to
be the great “I AM” (John 8:58). Jesus also made several other “I am” statements in the Gospel of John. Challenge each person to choose an “I am” statement of Jesus to research this week. Pick a

time at the end of the week to share what you found and how that taught you more about Jesus’ identity.
