AN UNFAITHFUL PROPHET

EXODUS

Use the following thoughts and questions to have a spiritual conversation as a family. Don’t

emphasize having the right answer, but focus on spending time discussing the Word as a family.

SCRIPTURE

Numbers 20:1-13

SESSION SUMMARY

In this week’s session, we looked at when Moses disobeyed God by striking the rock in Numbers 20. It was the low point of Moses’ life and ministry. He and Aaron’s disobedience had significant consequences for their futures. Here are some of the main things we saw in the story:

• Israel complains to Moses and Aaron (Num. 20:1-5).
• Moses and Aaron disobey God (Num. 20:6-11).
• God disciplines Moses and Aaron for their sin (Num. 20:12-13).

CONVERSATION QUESTIONS

  • How can anger and frustration lead us to sin?

  • How should we react when we are angry to prevent us from sinning more?

  • What is a consequence that actually taught you the seriousness of the sin and helped you learn from it?

    FAMILY CHALLENGE

Discuss the expectations and responsibilities that you have for each family member in the home. Then, outline some consequences from breaking those expectations or failing to complete their responsibilities. Let the children participate in the discussion and be a part of the process. At the end of the week, discuss what they learned and how the consequences either motivated them to do well or taught them when they did wrong.
