The God Who Delivers

September 11, 2022 Speaker: Jordan Gowing Series: 1 Samuel | Looking for the True King

Topic: Sunday Morning Teaching Passage: 1 Samuel 19:1–24

When you find yourself in the midst of life's trials, is God really there? Join us this Sunday at CrossWinds Church in Spencer as we consider the answer from the life of David in 1 Samuel 19.

Sermon Discussion

  1. What are some of the ways that you have seen God take care of you, even if you didn’t notice it in the moment?
  2. What is one highlight from the sermon and one question that you had after hearing the sermon?
  3. Read 1 Samuel 19:2–3; Luke 12:51–53. What is the choice facing Jonathan? Have you ever been forced to choose between family and Jesus? Wha can you learn from Jonathan in this passage?
  4. Read 1 Samuel 19:18; Psalm 59. In what ways does Psalm 59 give us insight into David’s struggle during this chapter? How does David converse with God while facing trials and hardship?
  5. What can we learn from David’s trust in the Lord during hardship? What trials are you currently facing? How does Psalm 59 give you (1) hope in a future and (2) the words to pray as you wait?

Vision Discussion

  1. As you consider Psalm 59, what are some ways that David places “big expectations” on God in his trials? What are some ways that God is calling you to step out in faith in the midst of trials in order that he might display his greatness through you?

Transformation Stories

  1. Take some time as a group to share stories of how you have seen God at work in your life or the lives of others. Alternatively, take turns sharing your testimony with your group to celebrate God’s saving and transformative work in your life.
