March 29, 2020 Speaker: Jordan Gowing Series: Through the Valley | Peace in a Pandemic

Topic: Sunday Morning Teaching Passage: Philippians 4:4–7

How might God use this difficult season for good in our lives? Join us this Sunday at CrossWinds Church in Spencer as we explore Paul's words in Philippians 4.

Sermon Discussion Questions

  1. Why is anxiety and worry so easy right now? What are some areas that you are tempted to worry about?
  2. What is one highlight from the sermon and one question that you had after hearing the sermon?
  3. Read Philippians 1:27–30. What does it mean to live a life “worthy of the gospel of Christ”? How does this look different in seasons of ease and seasons of suffering?
  4. Read Philippians 4:4. What is joy? Why is it a crucial part of the Christian’s life? Where should our joy be found?
  5. In the sermon, Pastor Jordan mentioned two problems that cause us to not rejoice (or that make it difficult to rejoice): making our problems too big or making our God too small. What does that mean? How have you struggled with this?
  6. Read Philippians 4:5. What does it mean to be gentle? (cf. 1 Timothy 3:3; Titus 3:2; James 3:17; 1 Peter 2:18 where the same word is used)
  7. In what ways can we build a reputation of gentleness, especially in this current season?
  8. Read Philippians 4:5–6; Matthew 6:32–34. What are the two truths of Scripture to combat anxiousness right now? Why does this take work?
  9. Read Philippians 4:6. What would it look like to become “decidedly prayerful”?
  10. Read Philippians 4:7. How does the peace offered by God differ from the peace the world offers?
  11. What would it look like for you to bear the fruit of righteousness (Philippians 1:27) this week?
