Vivification: Reflecting Christ in the Christian Community

December 3, 2017 Speaker: Jordan Gowing Series: Colossians | All About Jesus

Topic: Sunday Morning Teaching Passage: Colossians 3:12–17

Why is it such an important part of God's plan for us to live in Christian community? Why is it so hard to get along with some people in the church? Join us this Sunday at CrossWinds Church in Spencer as we look at Colossians 3:12–17.

Sermon Discussion Questions

  1. Do you think Christian community is important? Why or why not?
  2. Read Colossians 3:1–4, Colossians 3:5–11, and Colossians 3:12–17. How does this morning’s passage build on what has been said in the previous two passages?
  3. Why does God care so much about our relationships with other Christians? Share a way how Christian relationships have shaped your Christian faith.
  4. Read Colossians 3:12. Which of these characteristics of Christ is hardest for you?
  5. Consider the examples of Christian character in Colossians 3:12-13. At CrossWinds, many of us fall short in manifesting those qualities. How might the peace of Christ (Colossians 3:20) change things if it had a greater influence in our church family?
  6. Read Colossians 3:13. What does it mean to bear with one another? How does God intend to use Christian community to shape you more into the image of his Son?
  7. Read Colossians 3:13–14. What is forgiveness? What is forgiveness not? Think of an example of someone who is hard for you to forgive. How do the words of this verse challenge you to forgiveness?
  8. Read Colossians 3:16. What does it mean to let the word of Christ dwell in our hearts? What plan does Paul give here? Does this change your view of music?
  9. Read Colossians 3:17. What is one thing you can do this coming week to be more intentional in having this mindset?
