The Gospel for the Uninterested

What does it look like to bring the gospel to an increasingly post-Christian culture? Join us this Sunday at CrossWinds Church in Spencer as we consider what we can learn from the Apostle Paul in Acts 17.

Sermon Discussion

1. In Athens, Paul shares the gospel with “the uninterested.” Do you think we live in a similar setting today? Why or why not? What is similar and dissimilar between Athens in Acts 17 and today? 
2. What is one takeaway you have from this passage? What will you do with that this week? What is a question you still have after studying this passage?
3. Read Acts 17:16–17. What does it mean to be “provoked”? What causes Paul to be provoked to action here? What can you do to cultivate a similar heart in your own life?
4. What is the “marketplace” in Athens? What is the significance of Paul “reasoning” with people there (v. 17)? What would it look like for you to be a person who “reasons” with others as you bring Jesus into the “marketplace” of your life?
5. Read Acts 17:18–21. Share something you remember from these verses about the two philosophical schools.
6. Read Acts 17:22–31. Discuss the outline of Paul’s sermon in your notes above. How does Paul’s sermon paint a “truer and better” picture of God than the culture of Athens? What of today?
7. This Time Tomorrow: How does this passage transform your thoughts, actions, or interactions at “this time tomorrow”?
