Speaker: Jordan Gowing Series: Acts Topic: Sunday Morning Teaching Passage: Acts 16:25–40

Join us this Sunday at CrossWinds Church in Spencer as we consider another story of God's saving power in Philippi from Acts 16.

Sermon Discussion

  1. Consider the three conversions stories of Acts 16. What do they have in common? How are they different? What do these three different people tell us about the way Jesus works in building
    his church?
  2. What is one takeaway you have from this passage? What will you do with that this week? What is a question you still have after studying this passage?
  3. Read Acts 16:25; 2 Corinthians 4:7–11. Describe Paul and Silas in this verse. What does it look like to rejoice in suffering? How can we rejoice in suffering?
  4. Read Acts 16:26–30. In our sermon, Pastor Jordan argued that the earthquake was not to free Paul and Silas but was to free the jailer from slavery to sin. In what ways does our passage show this (compare with Acts 12:6–11, 18–19)?
  5. Read Acts 16:15, 33–34. In Acts 16, we see a powerful connection between conversion and radical hospitality. What can we learn from Lydia and the jailer? What does this type of hospitality look like today?
  6. Read Acts 16:28, 35–40. What is Paul’s motivation for remaining in jail? Why is it important for Paul and Silas to be publicly cleared of wrongdoing? Discuss the balance of suffering loss for the name of Jesus and using the legal system to protect Jesus’s reputation.
  7. This Time Tomorrow: How does this passage transform your thoughts, actions, or interactions at “this time tomorrow”?
