Sermon Discussion
- What is the danger of “Jesus and” something else in order to be saved? What are some ways that we see this today?
- What is one takeaway you have from this passage? What will you do with that this week? What is a question you still have after studying this passage?
- Read Romans 6:1–2; Acts 15:1–5, 11. What are the two dangers facing the church when it comes to salvation? How should we respond to each?
- Read Acts 15:7–11; Acts 10:44–48; 11:17–18). What are the ways that God acts in order to bring the Gentiles salvation?
- Read Ephesians 3:6; Colossians 1:19–27. What does it mean when we say that “God’s plan has always been to save Gentiles as Gentiles?” Why is it important to include those last two words? How is this different than the prevailing Jewish understanding of salvation for the nations (cf. Isa. 2:1–4)?
- Read Acts 15:19–21; 1 Corinthians 10:18–22; Revelation 2:14, 20–21. How do the prohibitions in verses 19–21 deal with idolatry? While Jesus alone is sufficient to save, why is it essential for the Gentiles to not continue in idolatry?
- Bishop William Temple once wrote, “Your religion is what you do with your solitude,” meaning that we can discover what controls our hearts when we examine our free moments. What does the “test of leisure” reveal about our hearts?
- This Time Tomorrow: How does this passage transform your thoughts, actions, or interactions at “this time tomorrow”?
