Yesterday is Not the End of the Story

Speaker: Jordan Gowing Series: Acts Topic: Sunday Morning Teaching Passage: Acts 9:19–31

Have you ever felt like no matter much you pray or try to change, nothing will ever really change? Join us this Sunday at CrossWinds Church in Spencer as we consider an important reminder of the power of the gospel to change lives from the book of Acts.

Sermon Discussion

  1. What are some the dangers of being “overexposed” to information today? What are some areas where you are tempted to see change or a breakthrough as impossible?
  2. What is one takeaway you have from this passage? What will you do with that this week? What is a question you still have after studying this passage?
  3. Read Acts 9:23-25; 2 Corinthians 11:30-33. How does Saul view his escape from Damascus? What is the significance of boasting in our “weakness”? What are some weaknesses that you can boast in that show Jesus’s greater power?
  4. Read Acts 9:26–30. How would you describe the ministry of Saul in Jerusalem? How does this compare to Paul’s earlier “ministry” in Jerusalem (Acts 8:1–3)?
  5. What can we learn from Barnabas (cf. Romans 15:7)? What are some ways that you can be more like Barnabas?
  6. Read Acts 9:31. What does this tell us about the spread of the gospel today?
  7. Read Galatians 1:15–18; 2:1. What do these verses tell us about the amount of time that Acts 9:19–31 covers? Why is this important to keep in mind?
  8. In the sermon, Pastor Jordan quoted a Greek pastor who said, “When I get to the US I feel like I have to remind people that they have a living God and not a dead one.” What does this mean? How can you live this week as though God is living and active?
  9. This Time Tomorrow: How does this passage transform your thoughts, actions, or interactions at “this time tomorrow”?
