Jesus's Pursuit of an Ethiopian Eunuch

Speaker: Jordan Gowing Series: Acts Topic: Sunday Morning Teaching Passage: Acts 8:26–40

What can we learn about evangelism from the book of Acts? Join us this Sunday at CrossWinds Church in Spencer as we consider one account from Acts 8:26–40.

Sermon Discussion

  1. Read Luke 15:3–10. How do these two parables describe the heart of God? How are they on display in this passage?
  2. What is one takeaway you have from this passage? What is a question you still have after studying this passage?
  3. In our sermon, we looked at the number of different ways that this passage shows God’s hand at work in bringing this man to faith. What are some of the ways that we see “divine guidance” in this passage, either explicitly or implicitly? What does that teach us about evangelism today?
  4. Read Acts 8:27; Deuteronomy 23:1. Take some time to discuss the significance of the man in the chariot in verse 27. What makes Jesus’s pursuit of him surprising?
  5. Read Isaiah 52:13–53:12. How does this “song” point to Jesus? Take some time to discuss what Acts 8:35—“beginning with this Scripture he told him the good news about Jesus”—might have looked like.
  6. Read Acts 8:36–38; Isaiah 56:3–7. What is the significance of the eunuch’s baptism here? How is this baptism the fulfillment of the Old Testament promise?
  7. How does God use the eunuch for the spread of the gospel to the ends of the earth?
  8. This Time Tomorrow: How does this passage transform your thoughts, actions, or interactions at “this time tomorrow”?
  9. Prayer Emphasis: In addition to praying for the prayer requests of your group, take some time to pray for Reach Global, the missionary arm of the EFCA.
