Stephen's Sermon Part Two: Rejected Savior

Speaker: Jordan Gowing Series: Acts Topic: Sunday Morning Teaching Passage: Acts 7:9–53

Join us this Sunday at CrossWinds Church in Spencer as we continue looking at Stephen's sermon in the book of Acts.

Sermon Discussion

  1. Stephen’s sermon is addressed to a crowd that assumes they “are doing things the right way. They are the good guys.” What is the danger of assuming that God has nothing new to say to you when you hear the Word of God?
  2. What is one takeaway you have from this passage? How does that affect your daily life in walking with Jesus?
  3. Stephen’s sermon is a warning, but it is also a lifeline of hope. How does his sermon encourage us to respond to the call of Jesus, no matter what has come before?
  4. Read Acts 7:9–16. What are some ways that Joseph is a signpost pointing us to Jesus?
  5. Read Acts 7:25, 35–38; 2:23, 32, 36; 4:11. What are some of the ways that Moses is a signpost pointing us to Jesus?
  6. Read Acts 7:44–50. What are some of the ways that the temple is a signpost pointing us to Jesus? (cf. Hebrews 9)
  7. Read Acts 7:51–53. What are the three warnings that Stephen gives to the crowd? How do these tie to the Old Testament? In what ways does “turning to Jesus” involve seeing how we have wronged him?
  8. This Time Tomorrow: How does this passage transform your thoughts, actions, or interactions at “this time tomorrow”?
  9. Prayer Emphasis: In addition to praying for the prayer requests of your group, take some time to pray for the political divides in our nation, that the church would be a people of peace and conviction.
