This We Believe | God

Speaker: Jordan Gowing Series: This We Believe Topic: Sunday Morning Teaching Passage: 2 Timothy 1:13–14, Deuteronomy 4:35, Exodus 34:6–7, Ephesians 1:7–10

AW Tozer once wrote, "What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." It is not enough for us to believe in God—we must have the right beliefs about God. But what are they? Join us this Sunday at CrossWinds Church in Spencer as we consider the answer from the Bible.

Sermon Discussion

  1. Discuss the opening quote from AW Tozer: “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.” Why is it essential to not just believe in God but have the right beliefs about God? What are some common cultural misconceptions about God?
  2. What is one takeaway from this study and one question that you had after our study?
  3. Read Colossians 1:16; Psalm 33:6–9. What is the connection between God as Creator and God’s worthiness for worship? What might it look like for you to live out your calling as one who was “created for him” (Col. 1:16)?
  4. Have you ever struggled with the concept of the Trinity? Take some time to discuss the “logic” of the Trinity in these sermon notes.
  5. Review the “What is God like?”  section of these sermon notes. What stands out to you? Which of these might be a correction to your view of God? Which of these do you need to remind yourself of this week?
  6. Read Psalm 104:14–28. Why is it important to remember that God is not only Creator but also Sustainer? Are you guilty of thinking of God as “distant” in his rule over creation? How can you remind yourself this week of God’s sustaining work?
  7. Read Ephesians 1:3–14; Revelation 21:1–5. What is the plan of God from before creation? How are all three persons of the Trinity involved in redemption?
  8. This Time Tomorrow: How does this passage transform your thoughts, actions, or interactions at “this time tomorrow”?
