The Acts of the Risen Lord Jesus

Speaker: Jordan Gowing Series: Acts Topic: Sunday Morning Teaching Passage: Acts 1:1–8

Is Jesus still at work in the world after his ascension? Join us this Sunday at CrossWinds Church in Spencer as we consider the answer in our new series on the book of Acts.

Sermon Discussion

  1. Acts encourages us to consider how God is still at work today. What are some ways that you have seen God at work, especially in “bringing his kingdom to the ends of the earth”?
  2. What is one takeaway from the sermon and one question that you had after hearing the sermon?
  3. Read Acts 1:1, 8–11. While we may intellectually know that Jesus reigns and is active today, there is sometimes a disconnect with how we live our daily lives. How is Acts helpful in addressing this disconnect?
  4. Read Acts 1:8–11. Why is the ascension important? How should it influence our day-to-day living?
  5. Read Acts 28:30–31. How does the ending of Acts 28 point us toward our role in the spread of the gospel?
  6. Read Acts 4:33–34. In our sermon, Pastor Jordan says that Acts tells us of the spread of the kingdom through the obedience of God’s people in Word and deed. What does this look like for us today?
  7. Read Acts 16:14. In what way is the Spirit at work in saving people? How does this comfort us when we are challenged toward obedience in sharing the gospel with others?
  8. Read Acts 8:1, 4. How does God use attempts to thwart his plan to instead further it? How does that comfort you?
  9. In our sermon, Pastor Jordan said that the book of Acts is meant to challenge us—but only after it comforts us. What are some of the ways that Acts comforts us? What are some ways that it challenges us?
  10. This Time Tomorrow: How does this passage transform your thoughts, actions, or interactions at “this time tomorrow”?
