Sermon Discussion
- What would you say the “main point” of Jonah is? How is that different than what is normally portrayed?
- What is one takeaway from the sermon and one question that you had after hearing the sermon?
- Read 1 Peter 1:10. After our study, how would you say that Jonah fulfills Peter’s words?
- Read Jonah 1. Do these verses paint Jonah in a positive or negative light? What are some characteristics that stand out to you?
- Read Jonah 1:9, 16; Deuteronomy 13:4. What do these verses tell us about the “fear”? Does Jonah actually fear the Lord? How does he stand up to the example of the pagan sailors?
- Read Jonah 1:17; 3:4–5. What is the difference between the time it takes for Jonah to respond to God compared to Nineveh?
- Read Jonah 3:10; Exodus 32:14 and Jonah 4:1–2; Exodus 34:6. What is the book of Jonah trying to do by drawing these connections to Exodus?
- Read Jonah 4:10–11. The book of Jonah ends with an unanswered question. Discuss God’s question in these verses and its significance for you today.
- This Time Tomorrow: How does this passage transform your thoughts, actions, or interactions at “this time tomorrow”?
