2 Thessalonians | The Man of Lawlessness, Part One

When is Jesus coming back? What will happen before his return? Can we know the answers to these questions? How should we respond when someone claims to know that Jesus is coming on an exact date? 1. What are your initial thoughts when people talk about the end of the world/the return of Jesus? What is your initial response when someone says that Jesus is coming back soon?
2. What is one takeaway from the sermon and one question that you had after hearing the sermon?
3. Before looking at 2 Thessalonians, Pastor Jordan gave three “ground rules” for discussing this passage (and other passages concerning the end). What are they? How do they help us to avoid various errors when discussing the end?
4. Read 2 Thessalonians 2:1–17. Why is it important to read all of chapter 2 together? In what way do verses 13–17 provide the “application” of 2 Thessalonians 2:1–12?
5. Read 2 Thessalonians 2:1–2, 15. What specific error is Paul addressing in the church? How does he address this issue? Have you ever met someone who has been deceived about the end? How did you respond?
6. Read 2 Thessalonians 2:3–5, 7; Daniel 11:36–37; 1 John 2:18. Pastor Jordan stated that Daniel 11 is initially fulfilled by Antiochus IV, but that there are multiple examples of fulfillment throughout history. How does this help us “de-sensationalize” passages about the end of all things?
