  3. Read 2 Thessalonians 1:1. What is the significance of Paul describing the church as “in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ”? How would this be a source of encouragement when the church is in the midst of suffering and affliction?
  4. In our sermon, Pastor Jordan said that the main message of 2 Thessalonians is, “Endure the hardships that come your way, for the Lord is faithful to preserve you.” Discuss this statement. Why are both halves of this statement crucial for Christian endurance?
  5. Read 2 Thessalonians 1:3. What two pieces of evidence does Paul reference when thanking God for the Thessalonian church’s endurance in the gospel?

  7. What is Paul’s motivation in telling the Thessalonians that he is thanking God for them? How might we do the same for others?
  8. Read 2 Thessalonians 1:4. Paul says that the church’s growing faith and love is evidence that they remain steadfast in trial. What are some of the ways that trials can draw us near to God or disillusion us with God? How can we be on guard against disillusionment and be intentional in drawing near?
