Gravity and Gladness

April 16, 2023 Speaker: Jordan Gowing Series: 2 Samuel | A Better King

Topic: Sunday Morning Teaching Passage: 2 Samuel 6:1–23

How should we respond to the reality of who God is? Join us this Sunday at CrossWinds Church in Spencer as we consider the answer from 2 Samuel 6.

Sermon Discussion

  1. What does it mean to worship the Lord with “gravity and gladness”? What does that look like for you, personally?
  2. What is one takeaway from the sermon and one question that you had after hearing the sermon?
  3. Read Psalm 99; 132:1–8; 2 Samuel 6:1–2. What was the ark? What two truths did it symbolize for Israel?
  4. Read 2 Samuel 6:3–7; Numbers 4:1–6, 15; 1 Samuel 6:6–8. Why does God strike Uzzah down? What does this teach us about the holiness of God and the sinfulness of humanity? (cf. Isaiah 6:1–5)
  5. Read 2 Samuel 6:10–11. Why is it crucial to interpret the events of verse 6–8 in light of these verses? What do they teach us about God’s character and plans for humanity?
  6. Read 2 Samuel 6:20–21. Michal is concerned about David’s appearance before whom? Before whom is David solely concerned? What do these verses teach us about radically different approaches to life? Toward which do you typically gravitate?
  7. Read 2 Corinthians 10:18; 1 Thessalonians 2:4; Colossians
    1:9–10.
What would it look like for you to, like David, “care far more about what the Lord thinks of you than others do” this week?
