Sermon Discussion

  1. Consider the following statement from our sermon: “God often uses the wicked deeds of wicked people to accomplish his purposes.” What are some other examples of this from the Bible?
  2. What is one takeaway from the sermon and one question that you had after hearing the sermon?
  3. Read Genesis 50:20; Acts 2:23. How does God use the evil desires of people to accomplish his purposes? How does this give us confidence for God at work in our own lives when we experience evil?
  4. Read 2 Samuel 4:4; 9:6–8, 13; 2 Corinthians 4:17. How does God use the “pointless” tragedy of Mephibosheth for good? How does God use your afflictions to prepare you for an eternal glory? How can you adopt this mindset this week?
  5. Read 2 Samuel 4:9; Psalm 78:1–8. What do these verses teach us about the importance of remembering how God has been at work in the past? What is the danger of not remembering? What can you do this week to be more intentional in remembering the faithfulness of God?
  6. What is one way that this text can transform your life this week?
