Is My Heart Set on the Word?

January 15, 2023 Speaker: Jordan Gowing Series: Spiritual Health

Topic: Sunday Morning Teaching Passage: Ezra 7:10, Ezra 9:4

What does it look like to be spiritually healthy? Join us this Sunday at CrossWinds Church in Spencer as we consider the first of six questions on spiritual health: is my heart set on the Word?

Sermon Discussion

  1. What is one takeaway from the sermon and one question that you had after hearing the sermon?
  2. Read Philippians 1:9–11. In what ways are our maturity and the glory of God connected? After reading this verse, what are some ways that you can bring God more glory this week?
  3. Read Ezra 7:10; 9:4. Which part of these two verses stands out to you most?
  4. What does it mean to “set your heart” on something? What are some things that you may struggle with (either consciously or unconsciously) holding that spot rather than the Word of God?
  5. What does it mean to “study” the Bible as opposed to just “reading” it? What are some ways that you can more intentionally study the Bible this year?
  6. Our statement of faith reads, “[The Bible] is to be believed in all that it teaches, obeyed in all that it requires, and trusted in all that it promises.” Are you a “doer” of God’s Word? What are some ways that you can more intentionally live out God’s Word this year?
  7. Read Matthew 28:18–20; 2 Timothy 2:2. What role does “teaching” play in disciple-making and the mission God has entrusted to his church? What does “teaching” others the Bible look like for you?
  8. Read Isaiah 66:2b. What does it mean to “tremble” at the Word of God? What are some ways that this verse gives you comfort and challenges you to take the call of spiritual health and maturity seriously this year?
