Who Will You Trust?

September 25, 2022 Speaker: Jordan Gowing Series: 1 Samuel | Looking for the True King

Topic: Sunday Morning Teaching Passage: 1 Samuel 21:1–15, 1 Samuel 22:1–5

When life seems out of control, who will you trust? Join us this week at CrosWinds Chuch in Spencer as we consider the answer from the life of David in 1 Samuel 21–22.

Sermon Discussion

  1. What are some reasons it seems easier to trust ourselves rather than God when life seems out of control?
  2. What is one highlight from the sermon and one question that you had after hearing the sermon?
  3. Read 1 Samuel 21. In these two stories, whom does David trust? Share some examples where you trusted in yourself rather than the Lord. What did you learn from those experiences?
  4. It didn’t take long for David to go from a man of faith to a man of self-reliance. What does this teach us about how fast and how far we can fall when we don’t consider God? What can we learn from David’s example when life is out of our control?
  5. Read 1 Samuel 22:5. What role does the prophet play in David’s return to the Lord? What role does the Word of God play in our obedience to God?
  6. We considered four lessons from 1 Samuel 21–22. What are they? Which of these is most relevant for your life today? How does this passage transform the way you live this week?

Transformation Stories

  1. Take some time as a group to share stories of how you have seen God at work in your life or the lives of others. Alternatively, take turns sharing your testimony with your group to celebrate God’s saving and transformative work in your life.
