  2. What is one highlight from the sermon and one question that you had after hearing the sermon?
  3. In 1 Samuel 1:1–20, we see Hannah’s heartfelt prayer get answered. What is the danger of reading the story of Hannah’s prayer as a formula to be followed?
  4. Read 1 Samuel 1:5–6. What is the significance of the phrase, “the LORD closed her womb”? Why is this good news even if it is hard news?
  5. Read 1 Samuel 1:9–11. Is Hannah bargaining with God? Why or why not? Share some observations from Hannah’s prayer.
  6. Why is it important to have an accurate understanding of God and ourselves when we pray? What is the importance of the word “remember” in Hannah’s prayer?
  7. Read 1 Samuel 1:11; Numbers 6:1–2, 5; cf. Judges 13:2–8. What is the significance of Hannah’s vow in verse 11? In addition to her personal affliction, what is Hannah asking God to address in her prayer?
  8. Read 1 Samuel 1:18. How does Hannah respond after she has made her prayer and shared with the high priest? Read Hebrews 4:14–16. How might we respond the same when we share our needs with our greater high priest?
