Sermon Discussion Questions
- What are “disordered loves”? What are some ways that your loves are disordered?
- What is one highlight from the sermon and one question that you had after hearing the sermon?
- Read Mark 12:29–31. What does Jesus say should be our highest loves?
- Read Genesis 3:1–7. In what ways is the Fall rooted in the disordering of Adam and Eve’s love?
- Read 2 Timothy 3:2–4. Which of these evils sticks out to you? In what ways are each of these sins rooted in a disordered love?
- Read 2 Timothy 3:5. What are some ways that we can appear godly externally but be dead on the inside? Can you think of examples from the Bible? (cf. Malachi 1:6–2:9; Mark 7:1–13)
- Consider this quote from Tim Keller’s book Counterfeit Gods. “[We must] realize that idols cannot simply be removed. They must be replaced. If you only try to uproot them, they grow back; but they can be supplanted. By what? By God himself, of course. But by God we do not mean a general belief in his existence. Most people have that, yet their souls are riddled with idols. What we need is a living encounter with God.” What are some ways that we can replace our idols with a living encounter with God?
