Topic: Sunday Morning Teaching Passage: Mark 11:1–11

  2. What is one highlight from the sermon and one question that you had after hearing the sermon?
  3. Read Mark 1:1–3; Malachi 3:1–2; Isaiah 40:3. Why is it important to keep these verses in mind when studying Mark 11:1–11?
  4. Read Mark 1:4; Matthew 3:7–10. What does John mean to “be ready”? What does it mean to “bear fruit in keeping with repentance”?
  5. Read Mark 11:1–3. What are some ways that Jesus subtly hints at his identity in these verses?
  6. Read Mark 11:4–6. What does Jesus’s precise foreknowledge hint at? How is this in line with the rest of Mark’s Gospel?
  7. In anxious and uncertain times, how does Jesus’s foreknowledge of his final week give us rest and comfort whatever we may face?
  8. If you are willing, share an example of uncertainty facing you today. How does God’s sovereignty give you comfort?
  9. Read Mark 11:9–10; Psalm 118:25–26. What is the message of the crowd’s shouts? In what ways is this different than what we typically think? What irony is found in these verses?

  11. What is the main point of this passage? What is its warning?
  12. How is God calling you to respond to this passage this week?
