Sermon Discussion Questions

  1. What has been the most astounding and most eye-opening part of Mark so far during our series?
  2. What is one highlight from the sermon and one question that you had after hearing the sermon?
  3. Read Leviticus 13:45–46. Why is it important to understand the Old Testament context of leprosy when reading this passage?
  4. Read Mark 1:40–41. How does Jesus respond with compassion? Why is this significant? How have you seen God’s compassion in your own life?
  5. Read Mark 1:42; Numbers 12; 2 Kings 5:1–15. How does this healing reveal more of (1) Jesus’s power and (2) who he is?
  6. Read Mark 1:43–44; Leviticus 14:1–9. How does Jesus’s power differ from that of the priests? In what way does Jesus’s healing here show he is superior to the old covenant?
  7. Read Mark 1:43–45. Why does command this man to be silent? What is the result of this man’s disobedience?
  8. It is easy to sympathize with this man’s zeal in telling others. Do you ever ignore obedience to God’s Word out of an ignorant zeal? If not, what do you think this would look like today?
  9. Read Mark 1:14–15. What does it mean to be obedient to the call of kingdom? What does that look like for you today?
