  1. Which of the four Gospels is your favorite? Why? Before today, what did you know about the Gospel of Mark?
  2. What is one thing highlight from the sermon and one question that you had after hearing the sermon?
  3. Read Acts 13:4–5, 13; 15:36–40; 2 Timothy 4:11. What can we learn about the reconciliation that takes place between Mark and Paul?
  4. What can we learn about God’s mercy and patience by looking at the life of John Mark? Share a way that God’s mercy for your past shortcomings encourages you today.
  5. Read Mark 14:66–72. What can we learn from God’s patience with and mercy toward Peter? How might God use your past shortcomings to encourage others today?
  6. What are the two questions Mark asks about Jesus? (Question 1 from chapters 1–8 and question 2 from chapters 9–16.) Why are these questions important to wrestle with?
  7. To whom was the Gospel of Mark written? What were they experiencing? How is this helpful in our study of this book?
  8. Read Mark 1:1; 8:27–38; 10:32–37; 15:37–39. What does it mean to follow a crucified King? How does understanding Jesus’s own suffering help us embrace the “path of the cross” as his disciples?
