Have you ever wondered what you should pray about when you pray for others? Join us this Sunday at CrossWinds in Spencer as we look at Paul's prayer for the Colossians.
Sermon Discussion Questions
- Take a moment to reflect on the content of your prayer life. What do you typically pray for?
- Read Colossians 1:9. What is Paul’s primary prayer concern for the Colossians? What does Paul mean when he refers to the “knowledge of his will”? Compare with Epaphras’s prayer for the Colossians in Colossians 4:12.
- Read Colossians 1:10–14. Paul lists four ways that we can live lives pleasing to God. What are they? Which of these four is the most convicting for you?
- Read John 15:1–11, esp. v. 8. What does it mean to “bear fruit”? Why is this so important in the Christian’s life? What would it look like for you to live a fruitful life?
- Read Colossians 1:11. How do Christians experience God’s power in their lives? How does God’s supernatural power manifest itself in every day living?
- Read Colossians 1:12-14. What are three things God did to release us from the power of sin? How does that encourage you?
- Draw up a list of what Paul prays for in the following verses: Colossians 1:9-11; Ephesians 3:14-21; Philippians 1:9-10. Learning from this list, how should we change the way we pray?
