- What comes to mind when you think of “discipleship”? Is “discipleship” an optional part of the Christian life? What does “discipleship” look like?
- What is one thing highlight from the sermon and one question that you had after hearing the sermon?
- Read Mark 1:14–20; 2 Corinthians 5:15; 1 Peter 4:2. What do these verses teach us about how to give Jesus first place in our life?
- Read Luke 14:28–32; 2 Timothy 3:12; John 12:25. What can we learn about the cost of discipleship from these verses? Why are we told to “count the cost” of following him before becoming a Christian?
- Read Philippians 3:7–8; Matthew 13:44–46. Is following Jesus whole-heartedly worth the high sacrifice Jesus demands? If you are able, give an example from your life when following Jesus demanded a high sacrifice? Do you consider it worth it?
- What is the significance of Jesus’s declaration that the “time has come”?
- Read Jeremiah 16:16–18. What is God saying when he talks about “fishers of men” in this passage? How does this change your perspective on Jesus’s words here?
- What is repentance? Why is repentance so rarely talked about in the church today?
- What would it mean for you to live a life of costly faith, costly repentance, and costly obedience this week?
